Process for Advanced Placement Government Registration for Rising 9th Graders

We would like to share information on how registering for Advanced Placement Government will work for our rising 9th graders for the 2016-2017 school year:

On Tuesday, February 9th, all rising 9th graders will register for classes for the 2016-2017 schoolyear and will select either Government or Honors Government for their social studies requirement.

On Thursday, February 11th, social studies teachers from Oconee County Middle School will meet with social studies teachers from Oconee County High School and finalize the list of student recommendations for Advanced Placement Government. This list will come from those students who have already registered for Honors Government.

Letters will be sent to those students being recommended for Advanced Placement Government inviting them to a parent meeting about the course on Thursday, February 18th at 5:30 in the Oconee County High School media center. Contracts for Advanced Placement Government will be distributed at this meeting.

All contracts for Advanced Placement Government will be due back to middle school social studies teachers by Friday, February 26th. At this time, Oconee County High School will then adjust these students’ schedules to move them from Honors Government to Advanced Placement Government.

Important Note: While it is highly recommended that students taking Advanced Placement Government also take Honors 9th Grade Lit as a yearlong pairing, it is not required. The high school will still be able to make schedules work for these students.

Our VISION

Oconee County Schools will be a nationally-recognized leader in academic achievement by ensuring all students receive a rigorous, balanced education that will enable them to compete in and contribute to a global society.
