Welcome to fourth grade at OCES!
Fourth grade brings many meaningful and exciting learning opportunities. Our team of teachers works diligently to ensure that each student meets his or her full academic potential.
This will be a big transition year for students. Students will learn to be more responsible regarding their belongings and homework assignments. They will also switch classes for various content areas, and the amount of subject area content is substantial.
The content areas on which we will focus are Reading, Language Arts and Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies. All content areas are aligned to follow the Georgia Common Core Standards of Excellence and Georgia Performance Standards. We will work on skills using the following supplemental programs: Accelerated Reader, Accelerated Math, and Study Island. The end of year progress for students will be measured using the Georgia Milestones assessment.
Students will have Star Card parties each nine weeks for exhibiting positive behaviors as outlined in the book, The 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey. These cards will need to be signed by parents each week as a communication tool between school and home. Parents can also expect to see a weekly newsletter from teachers; these will be sent home in Friday folders.
We look forward to a successful year of learning and getting to know your child.
