State Board of Education waives promotion/retention requirements for 2016 Georgia Milestones End of Grade tests

The State Board of Education (SBOE) approved the Georgia Department of Education’s request to waive components of the SBOE Rule Promotion, Placement, and Retention. In summary, the SBOE waived the promotion and retention requirements for grades 3, 5, and 8 for the 2015-2016 school year. This waiver was sought and granted due to technology-related interruptions of online testing for Georgia’s new assessment program– the Georgia Milestones Assessment System.

The Georgia Department of Education has indicated that there will be a delay in receiving the scores. They plan to conduct further analysis of the possible impacts of these interruptions prior to the release of student scores. Oconee County Schools will not use these scores for promotion, placement, and retention decisions for this school year. Please note that the scores will be included in students’ permanent records once the State Department of Education releases the results.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child's school or review our local policy for making promotion, placement, and retention decisions. The local policy is located on eBOARD which can be accessed using the link below.
