Vance Sims

Hi! My name is Vance Sims. In the 2013-2014 school year, I worked as the school counselor at Auburn Elementary in Barrow County. The 7 years prior that, I was the school counselor at Gaines Elementary in Clarke County. I worked for Advantage Behavioral Health Systems providing mental health services for children and adolescents for 4 years prior to becoming a school counselor (I was actually working inside of Gaines Elementary when the school counselor left during the year). Prior to that, I was a youth and family minister at a church in Athens for a little more than 17 years. Prior to moving to Athens in 1988, I worked for an electronics retailer for 4 years in three different states. I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I also see clients, primarily couples, at Bethel Haven, a sliding-scale counseling agency in Watkinsville, a few afternoons/evenings each week.

My wife (Joy) and I were married in 1982. Joy is a teacher in Oconee County (prior to that she taught in Madison and Clarke counties.. She worked at Colham Ferry Elementary for 4 years and now assists with behaviors across the county along with other district-wide responsibilities. We have three adult children who all live in Athens.

My primary goal is to assist students, families and the staff at MBES with their social and emotional needs and help in continuing to develop a great school culture!
