• Emergency Procedures

    In order to prepare for emergencies, each school creates an Emergency Plan outlining specific procedures for an emergency situation. In addition to the development of this plan, the schools complete the following drills:

    • Lockdown Drills

    Every school in Oconee County participates in lockdown drills at least twice per school year. Oconee County Schools partners closely with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office and the Oconee County Emergency Management Agency to conduct these drills. Students are taught how to react to a physical threat on campus. Representatives from the Sheriff’s Office and/or Emergency Management Agency are present during these drills to provide feedback during and after these drills to improve safety protocols.     • Severe Weather Drills

    Every school in Oconee County participates in severe weather drills at least twice per school year. Students are taught how to shelter as far away as possible from doors and windows. Oconee County Schools partners closely with the Oconee County Emergency Management Agency to conduct these drills and receives ongoing feedback to improve safety plans for severe weather.     • Fire Drills

    Every school in Oconee County participates in a fire or severe weather drill every month for the purpose of testing alarms and practicing building evacuation procedures. Students are trained to follow teacher instructions and taught how to most efficiently exit the building and report to a safe place.
