    Welcome to the OCES Counseling office!   
    The goal of the OCES Counseling Program is to provide high quality, comprehensive school counseling services 
    which are designed to develop and enhance the social, emotional,
    and academic development of all students.
    Key Components to the OCES School Counseling Program:
    • Classroom guidance lessons: These lessons help address common issues for students at a particular age or grade, such as feelings, conflict resolution, study skills, positive relationships, personal safety, and career awareness. My goal is to be in each classroom five to seven times throughout the year.

    • Small group counseling sessions: These groups help address students’ needs both proactively and reactively. I typically meet with each group once a week, during the students’ activity, extension, or lunch time for six to eight weeks. I will get parent permission for all groups. 

    • Individual counseling sessions: These can be proactive or reactive in nature as well. These are for students who need an immediate need met or a need which is best not to be addressed in a group setting, or that simply works best due to scheduling. 

    • Family or parent consultations: These are like parent-teacher conferences in which we discuss the concerns specifically for your child. These can be initiated either by the parent or by the school. If you have a concern specifically about issues in the classroom, your first source should always be the teacher. However, if you believe it is a social or emotional need which is impacting your child and would like to include me, please let me know. If you are unsure the best route to take, feel free to contact me as well.

    • Teacher consultations: I frequently meet and discuss students’ needs with the teachers. Teachers often ask for my input or for my involvement with a student or family in order to address the whole child. Also, as the counselor, I work with students from year to year so I may be able to help teachers understand previous concerns for a student.

    • Referrals: I am able to assist families with referrals to psychologists, counselors, and psychiatrists in private practice. I can also link families with other community agencies for other types of needs.

    • Crisis response: I do have training in crisis response and counseling for those more immediate and urgent needs that require school or counselor intervention.

    • Parent Engagement: Parents will have an opportunity to engage with the school counseling program throughout the year.
