Masters in English Education from UGA. Certified to teach English grades 6-12. Gifted Certified. Also trained and experienced in both AP English Language and Literature. Bachelor of Arts in English from Washington State University.

Rick Rasmussen

Most people call him Coach Ras, pronounced Raz. This is his 3rd year as an English teacher and head boys' basketball coach at NOHS and 24th year in education overall. He also helps sponsor the Titans FCA Huddle. In the classroom, Coach Ras teaches 12th Grade British Lit./Comp. and 10th Lit./Comp. with an emphasis on preparing students for success in college and life. Previously Coach Ras worked at Newton HS in Covington, GA for 21 years, teaching English and coaching boys' basketball and golf. While there, his Rams hoops teams won over 300 games in his 14 seasons as the head boys' basketball coach, including 5 region titles and 4 trips to the state Final Four. In 2016, he was named the Georgia AAAAAA State Coach of the Year, and in 2018, he coached Mr. Georgia Basketball. In his career, Coach Ras has mentored over 50 players who have gone on to play college basketball. In his first season at NOHS (2019-2020), Rasmussen led Titans boys' basketball to its first state playoff win in NOHS's 16 year history, first Sweet 16 appearance and only its second region runner-up finish ever. In his second season (2020-2021), he led the Titans to the most wins in program history, a 22-7 record, back-to-back region runner-up finishes, and another state playoff birth. Coach Ras and his family have lived in Oconee County for five years and love being part of the North Oconee family. In his spare time, he loves to play golf and take family vacations. Coach Ras holds a bachelor's degree in English from Washington State University and a master's degree in English Education from the University of Georgia in Athens.
