    Dear Distance/Digital Parents,

Good afternoon! We are pleased to announce that electives are now available for our distance/digital learners. Please fill out this Google Form to indicate your interest in your child’s participation in elective courses offered during this semester. The optional courses available are as follows:

    • Grades K-2: Arts & Crafts
    • Grades 3-5: Art and Keyboarding

Please complete the form by Fri., Aug. 19 at noon to enroll in or opt out of electives. If you choose an elective for your child, the added course card(s) will be on your child’s dashboard on Monday. Each student may be enrolled in a maximum of six courses.

In addition, we are providing a video with helpful guidance for the learning coach to prepare for the week’s lessons, along with additional content and assessment information. In the video, this website is referenced and provides multiple resources to support students’ learning experiences.

Over the next few days, you may have additional modules appear within each course. Showing all the modules within the course should allow the calendar settings to reflect correct dates for assignment completion. Access to the next module will continue to be provided the Friday before the work on these assignments should begin.

Thanks again for your continued support and flexibility!

    Best Regards,

    Jennifer Adams
    Director of Elementary Education

    Dear Distance/Digital Parents,

Thank you for your continued support and patience with the Accelerate Education platform. We recognize some of the challenges you may have encountered during the beginning of the school year. We are working closely with Accelerate Education and they have confirmed the following issues have been resolved:

    • The assignment settings in your courses have been updated to allow for the submission of multiple documents.
    • Quiz settings have been updated to allow multiple attempts and exam settings have been updated to allow up to three attempts.
    • Courses will not disappear from your child’s home screen once in Accelerate Education.

Please remember that distance learners are scheduled to begin MAP testing on Tuesday. This benchmark assessment provides accurate and actionable evidence to help target instruction for each student and provides the following information about your child:

    • Strengths/growth areas in Reading, Math, and Language Arts (grades 2-5)
    • Lexile reading level
    • Projected growth for the school year
    • National and county norms of your child’s performance
    • Opportunities for additional supports

Because Accelerate is self-paced, please choose the activities you feel is best for your child to complete during MAP testing. Students participating in the in-person learning model are also taking MAP this week and will therefore have one less content area each day as well. Your teacher may have communicated this with you; however, we believe a reminder is helpful to ensure a successful week for your student and the learning coach.

    We appreciate your continued support.

    Thank you,

    Jennifer Adams

    Dear Distance/Digital Parents,

Good afternoon! Thank you for your continued patience as we navigate through our new distance learning model. We have been working to continuously improve and streamline our processes. We hope that you and your child have had a good first six days!

Please continue to visit our webpage www.oconeeschools.org/accelerate for updates. The technical support section has been recently updated to provide a How-To Guide on the following topics:

    • Install the camera icon if it is not already visible

    • Take a picture with the Chromebook and submit

    • Kami set-up and demonstration

    • Type on a PDF with Kami and submit

    • Join a Google Meet and tour Google Meet

Please submit a request for technical support from the Accelerate Education webpage if your question is not answered in the How-To Guide.

As a reminder, synchronous sessions and office hours for all Distance Learning Teachers will begin no earlier than 3 p.m. each day as support teachers are with in-person classes prior to that time. You may receive communication from your teacher to reschedule a session to meet this criteria. Students who are receiving support services will still be provided those between the hours of 7:45 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

Students in Oconee County take Measures of Academic Performance, MAP, as a formative benchmark assessment three times a year. We have scheduled the opportunity for our distance learners to test remotely beginning next week. The schedule is as follows:

    • Grades K-5 Reading on August 18

    • Grades K-5 Math on August 19

    • Grades 2-5 ELA on August 20

This Friday, each school will send specific times for each grade-level to sign in and step-by-step directions to take MAP. In preparation for this assessment, please visit NWEA Student Resources for more information.

Thank you for your continued support and flexibility as we navigate through this time together.

    Sincerely,

    Jennifer Adams
    Director of Elementary Education

    Dear Distance/Digital Learning Parents,

Thank you for your continued patience and grace as we strive to ensure your child receives a rigorous education through Accelerate Education. We understand this platform has been challenging in the first three days of school and have developed some improvements below.

In order for distance learning students in grades 2-5 to stay aligned with in-person students for the first nine weeks, teachers utilized district Science (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt) and Social Studies (Studies Weekly) online resources within the modules. Students may have experienced issues when leaving the Accelerate curriculum to access one of these resources. To access Studies Weekly, please follow these instructions (Directions to Login to Studies Weekly). For science, we are changing the embedded links for HMH to this link within the lessons.

We are also aware of the issues in submitting student work. The platform for Accelerate does not have an embedded camera option and students cannot receive emails from their parent's non-school accounts. To resolve this, a camera has been pushed out to all students’ taskbars on their Chromebooks. Directions for finding the camera app on all Chromebooks can be found here. Students will be able to take pictures and submit their work.

We value your feedback and suggestions and appreciate your continued support.

    Sincerely,

    Jennifer Adams
    Director of Elementary Education

    August 4, 2020

    Good afternoon,

We are excited to kick off the 2020-21 school year tomorrow! As a reminder, please pick up your child’s materials tomorrow - Wed., Aug. 5 - from 9-10:30 a.m. at your child’s school in the bus lane or car rider lane.

All core content courses in Accelerate will be open on Aug. 5. It may benefit the Learning Coach and the student to take some time to orient themselves to the Accelerate platform and all of the materials received from OCS before beginning the content work. Your child will not get behind if you do not begin content work tomorrow. There are some items provided within the materials that should be handled with care under the supervision of the Learning Coach.

Access to the site will begin Aug. 5 for students and Learning Coaches. The site link can be found on the student’s school webpage that appears once your student logs into his/her Chromebook under the “News” item on the school website. The site link will also be placed on the Accelerate webpage inside the OCS website at oconeeschools.org/accelerate. The Learning Coach account is the mirror image of the student’s account. It is a way for Learning Coaches to login separately but only students can complete activities and submit the work.

For Learning Coaches to login beginning Aug. 5, use the email address you submitted in the Distance Learning Coach form as your username. Click “forgot my password” that can be found once you click on the three dots on the upper right corner.  This will begin the reset password process. If you have not completed the Distance Learning Coach form, you may do so using this link.

If you are a new student to OCS, an email will be sent today to help create an account within PowerSchool, our county student information system.

If your child needs to find a “good fit book,” below is a link to explain and access the TumbleBook Library. This link will also be on the Accelerate webpage within the OCS website.

Click here to access the Oconee County Schools TumbleBook Library!

TumblePremium is a collection of TumbleBooks (animated, talking picture books) with fiction, non-fiction and foreign language titles, Math Stories, Read-Alongs (chapter books with sentence highlighting and narration but no animation), videos (from National Geographics), TumbleTV which consists of pre-set playlists of a sequence of books, Tumble Puzzles and Games, and TumbleResources for teachers and students. TumbleBooks are created from existing picture books the TumbleBooks has licensed from children's book publishers and converted to the TumbleBook format.

We hope you have a great first day!

    Sincerely,

    Jennifer Adams
    Director of Elementary Education

    Parents of Distance/Digital Learners,

We look forward to kicking off the 2020-21 school year this week! Please know that your child remains eligible to participate in our breakfast/lunch program. The cost of meals will be based on each student’s regular benefit status (full price, reduced price, or free).

Please fill out this Google Form to let School Nutrition know if your child will be participating in OCS Meal Service at any point of being a distance/digital learner.

If you select that your child will be participating, you will be able to order meals on a weekly basis via a Google Form. You do not have to order every week to participate. You will receive this form each week via email. Meal orders are due each Thursday at noon for the following week. Meals will be available for pick-up at 9:45 a.m. each Monday. Due to availability, menu items are subject to change.
