Mr. Robert McMaken

I love the process of learning, teaching, and discovery.  Since high school (a long, long time ago) I’ve been a tutor or teacher (as well as a student of something) for nearly every year of my life.  After I got my undergraduate degree in English from Loyola University in New Orleans, I got my first public school teaching job in Nara, Japan.  I became fascinated with teaching, culture, and history there.  After coming back home, I studied history and got a Masters Degree at UGA in order to start teaching it.  Since then I’ve been pursuing my dual passions of teaching and playing music.  I mostly teach AP Human Geography, AP Art History, and occasionally US History in Film.  I am proud to live in Athens and to work at this great school that is full of vibrant and passionate educators and students!
