Scott Smith

Mr. Smith serves as the band director at North Oconee. He instructs the Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble, and the Jazz Band. Bands at North Oconee under his direction have been very successful. The marching band has earned all superior ratings, many best in class awards, and several grand championship awards. The symphonic band has consistently earned superior ratings at Large Group Performance Evaluation. The jazz band performs at community events and local concerts. North Oconee students participate in district band, all state band, The UGA January Festival, and solo and ensemble festival.   

Prior to joining the faculty at North Oconee, Mr. Smith worked for thirteen years in Rockdale County at Memorial Middle School and Heritage High School, both in Conyers. As director of bands at Heritage for eight years, his marching band consistently earned superior ratings, best in class awards, and won eight grand championships. His symphonic bands consistently earned superior ratings at LGPE and the jazz band performed at various community events and concerts.

Mr. Smith earned his bachelors degree in Music Education in 2001 and his masters degree in Music Education in 2005, both from the University of Georgia. 

Mr. Smith is a member of GMEA, NBA, and Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity. He lives in Watkinsville with his wife Susan and their two children, Kara Ann and Eli.
