My husband Tommy and I are fortunate to live in two houses. Yes, twice the house cleaning and more than twice the yard work. One home is in the north Georgia mountains along the Chattahoochee National Forest and the Appalachian Trail. A favorite pastime of ours is riding the Forest Service dirt roads and enjoy the beauty of the Forest.
On one of those rides in 2009, I expressed my decision to get back to work after taking care of my mother-in-law through her cancer. Having done publishing, consulting and being an OIC (Postmaster) for the US Postal Service for most of my adult life, wondered what in the world could I do next? Our adult son Zach was on that ride with us and popped up with "you can cook!!" Well he had a point - with 5 kids, cooking was important and I was always good at it. (Just ask any of them.) So, Tommy and bought a job, a local diner in Suches, GA! That is how the fun began!
We not only ran the diner and catered from there; but also did site cooking at a local resort for catered events. We provided food service for an elite Army military training twice a year as well as monthly food service for a local Military School.
In 2014, we decided to change our primary residence back to our Oconee Co. home. I started out as a chef at a local retirement home. I then began a new career as the Nutrition Manager at Colham Ferry Elementary beginning the 2014-15 school.
