Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Melanie Howard
I have two degrees from the University of Georgia: a BA in English and and MEd in Secondary Education. I am a certified reading specialist and hold special education certifications in reading, language arts, and general education.
I first worked in DeKalb County at Lithonia High School where I taught English in grades 8, 9, and 10. I was the head swimming coach, as well. From 1993-1999, I taught in the Paulding County School System both at Paulding County High School and Hiram High School. I taught 9th literature and journalism, as well as coached JV cheerleading. I taught one year at Social Circle High School in 9th literature and special education until landing at Oconee County HIgh School, where I have taught since 2001. While here, my primary focus has been teaching 9th literature and basic reading/writing. I coached the OCHS swim/dive team from 2001-2004. In 2010, I was nominated by my peers as OCHS Teacher of the Year - what an honor!
