Mr. Philip Manning
My career in education didn't begin the traditional way. I'm a proud graduate from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia with a Bachelor's degree in Management (2007). Upon graduating, I spent some time working for the family business and then took a job as a sales rep with Goodyear Engineered Products where I covered the Southeast United States. It was a great opportunity but I felt a calling to public education. So I went back to UGA and received a Master's degree in Workforce Education and began my teaching career in 2010 at the Houston County Career Academy in Warner Robins, Ga. While teaching at HCCA, I served as business teacher, FBLA adviser, and Work Based Learning Coordinator. After two years at HCCA, I relocated to Heard County High School in Franklin, GA. During my 3 years at Heard County, I taught Advanced Algebra and Pre-Calculus.
In the spring of 2015, I was made aware of an opening at Oconee County High School and jumped at the opportunity to apply. Since my student teaching experience at OCHS in 2010, it was my dream to become an Oconee County Warrior. I'm now entering my 9th year at OCHS! This year I will be teaching Introduction to Software Technology, Computer Science Principles, and AP Computer Science Principles. In addition to my teaching duties, I serve as the adviser for Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) where we have established a nationally recognized program with a multitude of students who have won state championships and national championships over the past 9 years!
My wife Chelsey and I are proud residents of Oconee County with our son Marshall (2) and daughter Cecilia (expected 9/12/23)!
I am very excited about the upcoming school year, and am happy to answer any questions you might have about my classes or FBLA!
