Hello and welcome to Rocky Branch Elementary School!  My name is Wendy Yount and I am currently teaching 3rd grade.  I've been part of the Oconee County School System since 1997 and was a founding member of RBES.   After graduating from Florida State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, I taught 3rd grade at Gaines Elementary School, the very school I attended as a child.  Those were important years for me as a teacher because I learned that I wasn't as prepared to teach as I thought I was at graduation!  I knew I needed more, so I enrolled at UGA in the department of Reading Education.  During my years at UGA I worked as a graduate assistant, teaching several courses in reading, learning, and studying to undergraduates who were struggling to adapt to college learning.  This made me realize that learning to learn is just as important as learning information!  I received both my Master's and Specialist's Degrees from UGA.  Recently, I completed my Gifted Certification.

On a personal level, I am married and have three daughters.  Our younger daughter is on the Oconee Mountain Bike Team, which keeps us busy and healthy.  The whole family loves cycling!  My husband is also a teacher, so that means we've had the same schedule our entire lives!  In the summers we enjoy traveling to new places, especially National Parks.  We always plan our summers around travel, camping, and historical spots.  Teaching history and reading is a true treat!  I get a lot of travel ideas from my work with students.
