    A student’s wellness profoundly affects their ability to focus and learn. “School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well being, academic success and lifelong achievement of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student response to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self management, self advocacy, and learning. Some of the other services provided by the school nurse include:
     
     
    • Health care counseling or guidance to students, their family, and to staff.
    • Identify health concerns by observation and assessment of needs, and provide appropriate care.
    • Medication management.
    • Immunization verification according to state law.
    • Screenings: vision, hearing, dental, blood pressure, scoliosis.
