Rick Rasmussen

Most people call him Coach Ras, pronounced Raz. This is his 2nd year teaching English at North Oconee HS and second as our Titans head boys' basketball coach. Previously Coach Ras worked at Newton HS in Covington, GA for 21 years, teaching English and coaching boys' basketball and golf. His Rams teams won over 300 games in his 14 seasons as the head boys' basketball coach at Newton, including 5 region titles and 4 trips to the state Final Four. In 2016, he was named the 6A State Coach of the Year, and in 2018, his star PG Ashton Hagans was named Mr. Georgia Basketball before playing at Kentucky the last two seasons. In his career, Coach Ras has mentored over 50 players who have gone on to play college basketball. In the 2019-2020 season, his first at NOHS, Rasmussen led the Titans to only their first state playoff win in NOHS's 16 year history, their first Sweet 16 appearance and their second region runner-up finish in school history. In the classroom, he teaches British Literature to seniors and 10th Grade Literature to sophomores. Coach Ras and his family have lived in Oconee County for four years and are excited to be a part of the North Oconee Titans family. When he is not teaching or coaching, Coach Ras can be seen on campus helping out with our Titans FCA Huddle. In his spare time, he loves to play golf and take family vacations. Coach Ras holds a bachelor's degree in English from Washington State University and a master's degree in English Education from the University of Georgia in Athens.
