Mrs. Laura Martin
I am excited and thankful for the opportunity to serve at CFES for the Preschool Special Education as a paraprofessional! CFES has been our home away from home for my kids and I am thrilled to get to work at this amazing school! I am married to my husband, John Martin and we have lived in Oconee County since 2002. We are an active members at our local church where I have served in the nurseries and preschools since 2002. We have three children, Levi (OCHS), William (OCMS), and Eliana (CFES). After working for the Social Secuirty Administration for 7 years, I resigned to raise my 3 wonderful kids. In 2017, I returned to work part time as a ESL/ELA Instructor’s Aide at Athens Technical College for the Adult Education Program and was promoted in 2019 to a full time position as a Certified Testing Specialist. In 2021-2023, I had the opportunity to work as a Speical Education Paraprofessional at Malcom Bridge Middle School and enjoyed supporting students to reach their goals.
I bring compassion, a positive attitude, and a willingness to work hard. I was born profoundly hearing impaired and overcame obstacles and difficulties while growing up in public schools. I appreciate my parents and educators who went above and beyond to support me during my own educational journey. It is my desire to give back by supporting educators. I hope that my experiences will encourage and inspire others to see that anyone can achieve their goals or dreams with hard work and commitment. I agree with the statement made by the first deaf Miss America, Heather Whitestone shared upon winning the crown in 1995, “my experiences have shown me that the impossible is indeed possible.”
During my free time, I love being with my family, traveling, and playing tennis. I look forward to getting to know and support our awesome students!
