Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Laura Martin
I am excited and thankful for the opportunity to serve at Malcom Bridge Middle School as a Special Education Paraprofessional! I completed the Mindset Training Certification and will be trained at Northeast GA RESA to support students with special needs. I graduated from Madison County High School in 1999 and attended Toccoa Falls College where I earned an Associate of Arts degree in 2001. I married my husband, John Martin that same year and was employed for the Social Security Administration for seven years until I resigned in 2008 to raise three children, now ages 13, 10, and 8. I also became a Certified Jazzercise Instructor between 2006-2011. In 2015, I was an assistant for the Mothers’ Morning Out/Preschool program at Faith Presbyterian Church. In 2017, I was employed part time as a ESL/ELA Instructor’s Aide at Athens Technical College for the Adult Education Program and was promoted in 2019 to a full time position as a Certified Testing Specialist. I have lived in Oconee County since 2002 and I am honored to work in one of our local schools!
I bring compassion, a positive attitude, and a willingness to work hard. I was born profoundly hearing impaired and overcame obstacles and difficulties while growing up in public schools. I appreciate my parents and educators who went above and beyond to support me during my own educational journey. It is my desire to give back by supporting educators. I hope that my experiences will encourage and inspire others to see that anyone can achieve their goals or dreams with hard work and commitment. I agree with the statement made by the first deaf Miss America, Heather Whitestone shared upon winning the crown in 1995, “my experiences have shown me that the impossible is indeed possible.”
During my free time, I love spending time with my family, traveling, playing tennis, and dancing. I look forward to getting to know and support our awesome students!
