Steven Colquitt
Steven Colquitt was named Director of Communications for Oconee County Schools in December of 2022 after nearly four decades working in sports journalism and administration.
Colquitt served the University of Georgia Athletic Association from 1998-2022, ending his career as the Senior Associate Sports Communications Director. He also worked as Editor of The Georgia Bulldog Magazine, Assistant Sports Communications Director, and Associate Sports Communications Director. Colquitt was the Sports Communications contact for the men's golf team, he helped coordinate the Athletic Association's digital assets, and he had various media-related responsibilities with Georgia's other athletic teams, including football.
Colquitt had responsibilities with seven national championship squads, including football in 2021 and 2022, and 18 Southeastern Conference championship teams. He assisted with media relations duties for 35 athletes and coaches before, during, and after the Olympics. Colquitt was chosen as the recipient of the 2013-14 UGA Athletic Association Dewey Dean Employee of the Year Award.
A native of Lexington, Ga., Colquitt worked at the Athens Daily News/Banner-Herald from 1985-98, including Prep Editor, Assistant Sports Editor, and the last year and a half as Sports Editor.
Colquitt graduated from Georgia in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. He added a Master of Science in Kinesiology with a degree in Sport Management and Policy from Georgia in 2017.
Colquitt is married to the former Paige Harris of Crawford, Ga., and they have two children, Catherine and Grant. Paige is a retired OCS teacher; Catherine and Grant are North Oconee graduates; and Catherine is the head athletic trainer for the Titans.
