    Grades: 6th-8th grades

    Sponsors: Cody Bishop, Elizabeth Smith

    Meetings:  Monthly, afterschool from 3:45-4:45

    Purpose

The H.E.R.O. Club exists to promote a caring community and friendships between students with disabilities and students without disabilities. The acronym H.E.R.O. means “Helping Everyone Reach Out.” In today’s middle schools, students with different abilities learn in the same building, walk the same hallways, and attend some of the same classes as their peers, but are often left out of social activities. The H.E.R.O. Club is dedicated to ensuring that everyone has opportunities to have a friend.

Leadership opportunities are available for 7th and 8th grade students that express interest in planning and organization of activites. Students must provide two recommendations and write a paragraph about why they are interested and what they will bring to the club.

    Yearly membership dues are $15.

Criteria for participation: All students welcome.
Must be academically eligible to participate in activities away from school during the school day.
