The H.E.R.O. Club exists to promote a caring community and friendships between students with disabilities and students without disabilities. The acronym H.E.R.O. means “Helping Everyone Reach Out.” In today’s middle schools, students with different abilities learn in the same building, walk the same hallways, and attend some of the same classes as their peers, but are often left out of social activities. The H.E.R.O. Club is dedicated to ensuring that everyone has opportunities to have a friend. Many of our members feel good about their contribution, as they realize they can make a difference in the life of another. 7th & 8th grade students also have unique opportunities for leadership as they make decisions regarding the direction the club will take and as they plan social activities.
Members of the H.E.R.O. Club have opportunities to participate in after school activities planned by the leadership team. This social time will include activities such as playing basketball, kickball, board games, holiday parties, and a quick time for snacks. Throughout the school day, members also have opportunities to be peer buddies. As you can see, we have a lot of fun and many of our members actually gain more than they give.
Criteria for participation: All students welcome.
Must be academically eligible to participate in activities away from school during the school-day.
