Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Kristen Stamey
Thank you for taking time to visit our school site & learn a little more about me!
As a third generation educator, my passion for teaching began on my own front porch, in Martin, GA, where I forced my brother to succumb to hours of “instruction”. Since elementary school, I dreamed of the days of having my own classroom and making my students feel both challenged and excited, and hopefully a love of learning.
Because literature acts as a gateway to discuss all the beautiful, heart-breaking, fascinating parts of life, I chose Secondary (6-12 English Education) as my undergraduate major at The University of Georgia. I began my teaching career at Central Gwinnett High School in Lawrenceville, GA. After two years, I left my Black Knight family to pursue an English position & coaching position at my alma mater, Stephens County High School. How special it was to teach in the classrooms I grew up in, with some of my favorite teachers from my youth. Ironically, it was in my hometown that I met a North Carolina man. Two years later, we were married. In 2012, (after finishing my Master's & Specialist Degrees), our family grew to four when our twin boys, Finn and Jase were born. In 2014, driven by my husband's football coaching career, the Stamey family relocated to Oconee County Georgia, where we have been happily embraced by this loving and supportive community.
I taught at Oconee County Middle School for four years, but following my love for the high school environment, I was fortunate enough to join the family at North Oconee High School in 2018. As I embark on my 14th year in the classroom, I will be teaching 9th grade Literature, Literary Types, & AP Language & Composition. I am certainly living my passion helping students navigate the powerful realm of literature while finding their own voice in the world.
