Mrs. Kristen Stamey
Thank you for taking time to visit our school site & learn a little more about me!
As a third generation educator, my passion for teaching began on my own front porch, in Martin, GA, where I forced my brother to succumb to hours of “instruction”. Since elementary school, I dreamed of the days of having my own classroom and making my students feel challenged and confident, just as the wonderful teachers of my own youth inspired me.
Because literature acts as a gateway to discuss all the beautiful, heart-breaking, fascinating parts of life, I chose Secondary (6-12 English Education) as my undergraduate major at The University of Georgia. I began my teaching career at Central Gwinnett High School in Lawrenceville, GA, hoping to experience a multi-cultural & suburban clientele of students, something I wasn't privy to, growing up in rural, Northeast Georgia. After two year, I left Gwinnett to pursue a an English position & coaching position at my alma mater, fulfilling my dream to re-introduce the world of GHSA competitive cheerleading to Toccoa, GA & bring my love of literature to the 9th/12th grade classrooms I grew up in. Honestly, I was also pursuing a love interest,a North Carolina man, who happened to coach my younger brother; 2 years later, we were married. In 2013, & with a Master's & Specialist Degree, our family had grown to five. Driven by my husband's high school football coaching goals, Drew & I, with our twin boys, Finn & Jase, & our chocolate lab, Boone in tow, we headed to Oconee County Georgia, where we have been happily embraced by this loving and supportive community.
After finishing my 4th (and fabulous) year at Oconee County Middle School, I knew it was time to venture back to teaching high school, and I've been fortunate enough to join the family at North Oconee High School. As I embark on my (lucky?!) 13th year, I will be teaching 9th grade Literature & AP Language & Composition (11th grade). I am certainly living my passion helping students find their confidence & drive in this world, showing them how they can set goals and master them, & reminding them that their own amazing stories matter.
