Lisa Boyd Thomas is entering her 17th year in the field of education. A graduate of Heritage High School in Conyers, GA, she returned to Rockdale County to begin her teaching career as a high school English teacher as well as soccer and basketball coach. As a second year teacher, Mrs. Thomas was named the Rockdale County High School Teacher of the Year as well as a county finalist. Throughout her career, Mrs. Thomas has taught at Lincoln Middle School in Santa Monica, California, and also was a Lead Teacher at Animo Inglewood Charter High School in Los Angeles, CA. Upon returning to Georgia, she joined the original staff at North Oconee High School in 2004. One of her fondest memories is starting the girls' soccer program at NOHS. In 2015, Mrs. Thomas began working at Malcom Bridge Middle School as a 7th grade Language Arts teacher. She also took on the role of reading intervention specialist and taught Read 180. In addition to her teaching duties, Mrs. Thomas was a Co-Chair for the MTSS Committee and was a member of the MBMS Leadership Team. Furthermore, she was honored to be named the 2018-2019 MBMS Teacher of the Year.
She is extremely humbled and grateful for the opportunity to be a member of the Dove Creek Middle School family in its inaugural year. After teaching in the classroom for 16 years, she is stepping into a new role as Assistant Principal. She has a BA in English from Presbyterian College where she was a four-year letterman in soccer as well as team captain and All-SAC Conference. She later earned her Masters in Education Administration and Policy from the University of GA.
In her free time, Mrs. Thomas loves spending time with her family: husband--Alan-- and her 4 children-- Izzy, Captain, Alex, and Mara. She also enjoys reading mystery novels, cooking anything Italian, and exercising with her dog, Gracie.
