Hi Mustangs! This is Mrs. Shelby Hilley, your new Assistant Principal. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and my family. I am from Savannah, Georgia, but lived all over the world and attended seven different schools as a military child. Being “the new kid” is something I’ve gotten quite used to. My husband Tyler is a landscaper and we share the love of design. We built our home together and put our hearts into every detail. We have two sons Hudson, who is seven, and Tucker who is four. Hudson will be beginning second grade at Colham Ferry Elementary. I am so excited to have him at work with me each day! All of my boys love to ride dirt bikes and I cheer them on from the golf cart while reading a good book!
I knew from a very young age that I was meant to be a teacher. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah. I then moved to Athens and completed both my Master’s and Educational Specialist Degrees in Early Childhood Education at the University of Georgia. I taught grades Pre-K through second for thirteen years and I spent my fourteenth year as a K-5 STEM teacher. I’ve been a part of Oconee County Schools for six years.
During my time in the classroom I have led teams through the implementation of new curricula and instructional programs, worked on standards development and assessments at the district level, and welcomed many groups of teachers into my classroom for observations. These moments shaped me as a leader and helped pave the way into administration. I am thrilled to begin my journey with you! I look forward to meeting you and becoming a part of the Mustang Family.
