Argo appointed Board Chair

At the Sept. 2, 2021 Board of Education called meeting, Board Vice Chair Kim Argo was appointed to the Post 1/Board Chair position, effective immediately. Following that appointment, Amy Parrish was named Board Vice Chair. In addition, the Board nominated former Board member Wayne Bagley to the Post 3 position, also effective immediately. All appointments were unanimous.


“Under the consistent and steadfast leadership of Kim Argo as Board Vice Chair for eight years, Oconee County Schools has further cemented itself as a destination for those seeking the highest quality education in the state,” said Board Member Tim Burgess. “Mrs. Argo will undoubtedly do a fine job as Board Chair following her lengthy service as Vice Chair.”


Said Board Member Michael Ransom, “The Board is also very pleased to have Amy Parrish in the Vice Chair position. In addition, we look forward to welcoming back Wayne Bagley to the Board of Education. His decade-long service on the Board coupled with his construction expertise are ideal in the midst of a variety building projects happening throughout the system.”


Citing health reasons, Tom Odom resigned his Board Chair seat at the Aug. 9 regular board meeting, effective Sept. 1. Mr. Odom had served as Board Chair since 2013.


As required by law, Mrs. Argo first resigned her Post 3 position before she could be nominated for and subsequently accept the Post 1/Board Chair position. The term for the position ends Dec. 31, 2024. Following that, the Board nominated Mrs. Parrish for the Vice Chair position; her term ends Dec. 31, 2022. Finally, the Board unanimously approved for Wayne Bagley to serve in the Post 3 position in a term that ends Dec. 31, 2022.


Argo has served on the Board since 2009 and Vice Chair since 2013. A retired educator, her lengthy career included service as a teacher in Madison, Oglethorpe, and Oconee counties and as an administrator in Walton County. Mrs. Argo is a proud mother and grandmother, and has grandchildren enrolled in Oconee County Schools, two of whom graduated from Oconee County High School.


“I am honored to accept the position of Board Chair, after Tom Odom’s exceptional service to the students and teachers of Oconee County Schools. I look forward to continuing the trajectory of our school system as one of the top systems in both the state and nation, and I am humbled to serve the citizens of Oconee County in this capacity,” said Argo.


Parrish has served on the Board of Education since 2016. She is a Senior Financial Advisor at Highland Trust Partners. She is married to Bob Parrish, and they are the parents of a son who is a student in Oconee County Schools and a daughter who graduated from Oconee County High School.


“I look forward to serving our community as Vice Chair of the Board of Education and continuing to work alongside this esteemed Board. Oconee County Schools is such a special place and I am grateful to have the opportunity to serve,” said Parrish.


Bagley served on the Oconee County Board of Education from 2010-20. He is the Vice President for Development for Lassiter Properties, where he has worked for 30 years. Mr. Bagley is married to Margaret Bagley; they have two sons who graduated from North Oconee High School.


“It’s truly great to be back on the Oconee County Board of Education and I welcome this opportunity to serve alongside such dedicated members of our community. Together, we will continue ensuring the sustained excellence for which our school system is known,” said Bagley.
